House of Representatives Condemns Killing Of Corps Members

Lawmakers in the Lower Chamber have passed the first motion of the 8th House of Representatives condemning the killing of corps members in different parts of Nigeria.

Moving the motion under matters of urgent national importance, Honourable Kingsely Chinda, said “the nation must take steps to protect these young Nigerians who are serving their country”.

The PDP Rivers State representative was brought to a halt by a point of order by an APC Lagos State representative, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila.

Gbajabiamila’s point of order was sustained and the motion was put to a vote. The motion was, however, passed with some amendments.

The House urged the police to investigate the matter and ensure those responsible were brought to justice.

Proceedings adjourned to June 23, while the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, brought the first day of legislation to a close.

It is expected that by June 23, the remaining principal officers of the House would have been announced.
